Have you ever looked around your life and realized that the things that used to bring you comfort, stability, and joy suddenly don’t work anymore?
It can feel like a sudden shift in the wind. One day you know exactly who you are and where you’re going, and the next, you feel completely disoriented. It's as though the ground beneath you has shifted and you’ve been left behind in the dark. Entering a new season of life, whether it’s a new career, a breakup, a major move, or just an internal shift you can't quite explain, usually starts with a deep, unsettling sense of loss.
If you are standing at that terrifying crossroads tonight, here is a strangely comforting story about a family who went through this exact type of panic.
Anchored in Luke 2:41-52
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom. 43 And when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, 44 but supposing him to be in the group they went a day's journey, but then they began to search for him among their relatives and acquaintances, 45 and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 And when his parents saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” 49 And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?” 50 And they did not understand the saying that he spoke to them. 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.
When Jesus was born there was a heavenly announcement in the spirit realm. As evidenced by the Magi, who received the revelation of his birth through the stars and came to worship him (Mathew 2: 1-2). Similarly, when we are born spiritually or begin a new season, there's an announcement in the spirit realm and an activation of the heavenly calendar. so that God is able to do here on earth as our blueprint dictates in heaven. This calendar is God’s divine timetable, orchestrating seasons and purposes so that what is decreed in heaven is worked out on earth (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Because of this, it is a serious oversight to ignore the importance of our spiritual birth calendar our divine timing and season. As humans, we are diligent about celebrating earthly birthdays, yet often neglect discerning our spiritual seasons and appointed times using biblical wisdom. Remember, the Bible is not only the story of Jesus but also a mirror for our spiritual identity (2 Corinthians 3:18, AMP). While earthly calendars guide us on human matters, the heavenly calendar reveals spiritual timelines the appointed seasons when God moves in our lives.
Scripture Summary
In our anchor scripture, we see Jesus and His family traveling up to Jerusalem for the Passover feast, as was customary according to the Law (Luke 2:41). At first glance, reading with natural eyes, this might appear to be a simple, even trivial, story of a curious twelve-year-old who gets separated from His parents in the temple. Yet, a closer, Spirit led examination reveals that this passage is not about a lost child but about divine times and seasons unfolding. This story marks a significant spiritual transition, the beginning of Jesus stepping into His identity and purpose in alignment with God’s appointed timing. It points us to the importance of discerning seasonal shifts in our own spiritual journeys. We see Jesus transition from tradition and boyhood to sonship at the age of 12 during the Passover.
In verse 41 We see the Jesus and His family travelling to Jerusalem every year (this reveals a ritual) for the feast of the Passover. As you read this passage, it’s important to ask: What does the Passover represent? The Feast of the Passover mentioned here is not incidental or decorative. A close analysis of scripture reveals that the Passover feast was never just a celebration it was a doorway into the next season. In the Old Testament, when Passover was first established, the Israelites were living in slavery in Egypt, and this feast marked their divine transition from bondage to freedom (Exodus 12). Similarly, the Passover is introduced for the first time in the New Testament, in this passage.
Why? signaling another profound seasonal shift.
The Passover is a prophetic threshold where God’s people move from one phase of destiny into the next. So, every time you see the word Passover in the New Testament, remember: it signals a seasonal shift.
This can be confirmed using the law of first mention.
The Law of First Mention is a principle used in biblical interpretation that says the first time a concept, word, or event is mentioned in Scripture often sets a pattern or establishes its foundational meaning throughout the rest of the Bible.
The first mention of Passover occurs in Exodus 12, where it marks a significant transition, the
Israelites' deliverance from slavery in Egypt. It's not just a meal or a ritual; it's a divine moment of change, freedom, and movement into a new season.
Similarly, in Luke 2:41, the first New Testament mention of Passover coincides with Jesus' transition from childhood to maturity, as He remains in the temple, engaging with teachers. It subtly marks the beginning of His awareness of His divine calling, another pivotal shift. Applying the Law of First Mention helps us understand that the Passover consistently marks a divine transition. A crossing over from one season to the next. That theme carries from Exodus into the life of Christ and beyond.
In verse 42, we see this was customary, implying a traditional (earthly) activity.
The bible also mentions that He was 12 years old. Again, it also important to ask what does 12
represent? According to the Jewish culture, that’s the time for maturation into sonship. Just like when we circumcise our boys and our girls start receiving periods. This shows that the physical activities are markers of transitions in the spiritual realm, as was established by the Passover.
In verse 43 We see the feast ending but the boy Jesus is left behind in Jerusalem. Something captured my eye; the bible describes him as the boy Jesus. Why? Because he was still a child, another important thing to consider, as will see why later on. He had been left behind because he had
stepped out of natural rhythm and into heaven’s agenda, that’s why His Parents were unaware. This reveals how often we assume God is moving in familiar patterns only to find He has moved into the next season, while we’re still walking in the old.
In verse 44 The Bible says they went a whole day supposing. This shows that they went a whole day assuming He was with them. They didn’t know He was missing because they were relying on routine, not revelation. His parents look for Jesus within his earthly ties, that is family and acquittances. But they didn’t find him for he had migrated to another genealogy, rhythm and system. This speaks prophetically to how many people walk for “a day” (symbolizing a season of life) unaware that God is no longer in the place or pattern they assumed He was.
On discovering they can’t find Him, His parents circle back to the temple. Another interesting thing happens; it takes them 3 days to find him. Only that they find him sitting in the temple asking and receiving teaching. Something had shifted! That number is never random. Three days often signals a prophetic transition (Three days consistently marks a transition in scripture, often a death and resurrection pattern). This transition is evidenced in verse 47, where we see that he amazed people with his understanding and answers (revelation). A transition had taken place within the three days.
In verse 48 When His parents saw him, they were astonished and sought him anxiously. Why? because they were not able to discern the season he was in. Every time we are not able to discern seasons we're always living in anxiety and caught up in surprises. Besides spiritual transitions often bring confusion or tension for those close to the person in transition, because they do not discern the season.
In verse 49 Jesus asks, “Why were you searching for Me? Didn’t you know I had to be in My Father’s house?” Imagine Joseph’s face when Jesus says, my Father’s house! Here, when He said “My Father’s house,” It was a public proclamation (first ever recorded words of Jesus) and identity Shift to His heavenly Father. This moment marks the shift from Joseph's son to the Son of God. It’s no longer just about earthly responsibility it’s about spiritual identity and eternal purpose.
This were his first ever recorded words, words of sonship. This is the language of sonship.
Jesus is teaching us the language of sonship, and shows us that a time has to come when we make a shift from our earthly identity to our heavenly identity.
This verse reveals the disconnect between the natural calendar and the prophetic calendar. His parents were still operating from cultural expectations and family tradition but Jesus was aligned with His heavenly assignment.
Are you as a parent seeing your child from the natural calendar or the prophetic journey? Mary and Joseph were still moving with natural rhythms (family responsibility, social expectations and his concern). This shows the disconnect between spiritual seasons and the natural environment.
In verse 50, they did not understand because he was speaking a spiritual reality while they were tied to the earthly rhythm of things, or calendar. He was speaking from revelation and deep understanding (verse 47) but they were stuck on routine.
This highlights a common tension: when prophetic reality begins to unfold, it’s often
incomprehensible to those bound by tradition.
In verse 51, The bible goes ahead to tell us He was submissive. This detail shows a change in fatherhood. Jesus returns home and is obedient to His parents out of alignment. He was obedient to God But submitted to his earthly parents. He had shifted fathers, (Jesus says, “And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.” Matthew 23:9) but He still honored structure (hence why the bible says honor your father and mother (Matthew 19:19) …not obey but honor).
This reveals the maturity of true sonship: obedient to God, submitted to process.
This is the language of sonship. Jesus is teaching us the language of sonship, and shows us that a time has to come when we make a shift from our earthly identity to our heavenly identity.
Notice in verse 52 the phrase is not “the boy Jesus” anymore (as in verse 43) it's now simply “Jesus.” That shift is intentional and prophetic. In verse 43: “…the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem…” In verse 52: “And Jesus increased in wisdom…”. In addition to this, verse 52 is almost isolated from the rest of the paragraph. It’s as though it’s a complete or entire story by itself. This transition in how Scripture refers to Him reflects a deeper truth: He has entered a new season from boyhood to sonship and from there he grew in wisdom, statute, favor.
Notice, the son Jesus is recorded to have grown in wisdom, not boy Jesus. That is why creation is groaning for the manifestation of sons (Romans 8:19) and not groaning for more churches, or for more “gifted” people because Sons carry wisdom. Sons move in alignment with heaven. Sons advance the kingdom through understanding, not just power.
Luke 2:52 is more than a verse about growth. It is a prophetic scripture and a template for divine maturation. This is an Activation into sonship.
The things written aforetime were written for our learning and edification (Romans 15:4). The story of Jesus at age 12 is not just a historical record, it is a prophetic blueprint. We are living in a time where many people move with natural calendars (bills, anniversaries, human set timelines) and corporate church seasons, (themes, fasts, gatherings) and yet neglect to discern their personal prophetic timelines or those of their children.
But if Jesus entered into identity and purpose at age 12, then we must ask: What does this age represent spiritually for us and for the next generation? This passage places a demand on parents, guardians, mentors, and spiritual leaders: To stop merely managing tradition, and start calling forth identity. It's not enough to bring our children to church, we must disciple them in revelation. At this age, they should begin to step into awareness of their assignment. This is not a call to pressure them, but to align them with heaven’s calendar.
There is a responsibility to discern and activate prophetic seasons and to break cycles of delay by recognizing when a shift is due. Identity must be spoken, shaped, and stewarded.
“Don’t just raise children, raise destinies.” Why? destinies must be midwifed, not assumed. And that
begins the moment a shift is sensed in the Spirit.
If we are to live by God’s calendar and discern our spiritual seasons, both personally and for those entrusted to us we must become intentional about tracking revelation.
Keep a Prophetic Journal:
Begin maintaining a prophetic journal not just for dreams, but for:
Visions
Impressions
Images
Scriptures
Encounters
Repeated phrases or themes
Don't separate them into rigid categories (record them in chronological order instead) as often what seems like “just a dream” may connect with a scripture or image you received two weeks prior. They are often pieces of the same puzzle. God speaks in layers; through dreams, symbols, patterns, and scripture. The more you track, the clearer the patterns become over time.
“For God may speak in one way, or in another, yet man does not perceive it.”
— Job 33:14 (NKJV)
Weekly Prophetic Review:
At the end of each week:
Set aside intentional time for review and prayer.
Look back over your journal entries.
Ask: “What is the common thread? What might God be revealing?”
Pray into it. Ask for interpretation, clarity, and timing.
Over time, you will begin to see the rhythm of God’s voice in your life, and by the end of each month, you’ll often find that you have a clearer prophetic picture of what the Lord is saying or preparing. This is how discernment matures. It’s not just about receiving revelation; it’s about becoming a steward of it. Why you may ask? Because sons live from revelation and not from reaction. So, it is our mandate to distill what the LORD is saying concerning our lives if we are to live victoriously as SONS.
But for you to achieve and experience this, first you need to be still, especially mentally and emotionally. Remember Jesus is the transition and so we can only catch these moments in him and by His Grace. So, don't read the bible just know, ask the holy spirit to guide you to where you are supposed to be reading. Don't be too keen on doing yearly challenges, be keen on alignment with word, and that way you'll be aligned with Jesus, for He is the Word.
But above all, this journey begins with salvation. Without first surrendering to Jesus, the Passover Lamb, none of these spiritual patterns and principles can be fully embraced. Salvation is not just a prayer; it is a divine transition. It is your own personal Passover moment, where you move from bondage to freedom, from being lost to being found, from wandering to walking in your divine calendar. As Colossians 1:13 reminds us, “He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves.”
Sometimes, what feels like a crisis or a loss is actually just growth. You feel disconnected from your past because you have outgrown it.
Mary and Joseph wanted the comfortable, familiar boy they brought to the city, but life was demanding that they accept the man he was becoming. When you enter a new season, you cannot take the old version of yourself with you. You have to let go of the safety of "how things used to be" to make room for who you are meant to be next.
You aren't being punished, and you haven't lost your way. The confusion you feel right now is just the stretching pain of your capacity expanding.
I decree and declare over your life today: The panic of the transition is leaving your mind. You will not look back at the past with regret, nor look at the future with fear. Receive the grace to step boldly across the threshold of this new season, with your head held high, knowing that the same hand guiding your steps is walking right beside you. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
And so, I pray that the God of seasons will open our eyes. To understand the seasons and timings of our lives just like the sons of Issachar, so that we may know what to do and when to do it. That we may see and call out the purpose in our lives and our children to enable them walk in their inheritance and the days ordained for them. To call forth light out of the darkness and minimize the chaos we walk in as human, tied only to earthly systems. That Yahweh will endow us with divine and prophetic intelligence to know and walk according to the heavenly calendar. And like Jesus, the model man, we shall always walk in prophetic precision and not wander like lost sheep, In Jesus name, I announce, it is your season to migrate from childhood to sonship, In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen!
If you haven’t given your life to Christ, this is where it all begins! This is your threshold into identity, alignment, and destiny. It is the time to make a conscious decision to leave the dominion of darkness and migrate into the Kingdom of the Son He Loves. Say this prayer out loud:
Lord Jesus, I come before you today. I repent my sins, and declare that you are Lord over my life. I confess with my mouth that you are my Lord and savior, and believe in my heart that you died for my sins, resurrected and are seated at the Right hand of God the Father Almighty. I receive you in my heart today to do your will, In Jesus Name Amen!
